Metaphor Club Conference is usually held every two years and the purpose of Conference 2011 is to discuss the role of metaphor in communication, by exploring some of the major issues in contemporary metaphor theories. The conference will be divided into four sections, having as main subject of discussion the following topics:
1) Metaphor and Linguistic Variability
1.1 Metaphor and (Machine) Translation, 1.2 Metaphor and Explicit/Implicit Distinction,1.3 Metaphor and Intercultural Discourse, 1.4 Metaphor in Sign Languages
2) Metaphor and Cognition
2.1 Metaphor and Concepts, 2.2 Metaphor and Cognitive Processes, 2.3 History of Metaphor Theories, 2.4 Metaphor and Artificial Intelligence
3) Metaphor and Media
3.1 Metaphor and Fiction, 3.2 Metaphor in Cinema and Visual Arts, 3.3 Metaphor and Computer Mediated Global Communication, 3.4 Metaphor and Political Communication
4) Metaphor in Science and Education
4.1 Metaphor in Scientific Explanation, 4.2 Metaphor and Models, 4.3 Metaphor in Games, 4.4 Metaphor in E-learning
Each section is divided into a plenary presentation and a thematic session with two speakers invited by Metaphor Club Committee and two contributed speakers whose abstracts are selected by double-blind review process.

SUBMISSION DETAILS
We invite all scholars, who currently work in metaphor studies, to submit an abstract of their presentation, written in English or in Italian and prepared for blind-review, of no more than 500 words. Please specify on a separate page name, affiliation, e-mail address, and section in which the paper is to be presented. Submissions are made by email attachment to Elisabetta Gola at
